Abstract

This study was aimed to describe the development of large and medium industry in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) towards 9 groups of industrial classification. Data of the study included statistical secondary data from Badan Pusat Statistik, Direktori Indiustri Besar dan Sedang Propinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, and DIY Dalam Angka. Data that was used in the study was data of large and medium industry of ISIC 31-39 during period 2000-2008. The study was analyzed with estimation empirical analysis model of General Least Squaures (GLS) and EGLS that used Eviews program. First stage of the study was data panel model testing to find differences between time and between space. Next, the testing was to find which one that could be analyzed; none, common, fixed effect and/or random effect? The testing of large and medium industry performance was done with researching and comparing profit, efficiency, and progressiveness (technology progressiveness) of each large and medium industry in ISIC 31-39. The result showed the elemens of large and medium industry performance in DIY (profit and technology progressiveness) influenced market power positively, and efficiency influenced market power negatively. Large and medium industry should continue improving performance to increase market power both in Indonesia and abroad. Efficiency of large and medium industry in DIY shouldn’t be too high because of negative relationship between efficiency and market power.
