    Abstract

    Consumer position is still weak within the context of consumer-producer relationship. It is caused by some factors like low education and culture, whereas the implementation of Act No 8/1999 on Consumer protection is still not optimum in the practice.The goal of this research was to identifiy the communication strategy to make consumer aware and actively involve in consumer protection.Consumer awareness strategy relates to issues like media to be used, types of messages and how consumer should have responded to when they were treated unfairly by the producers. Education, advocacy,regulation and networking are crucial to empower community.
