Abstract
Many forms of gender inequality can be found in social life in Indonesia. Marginalization, subordination, stereotype or negative labeling, violence, and social ideology of gender role are some gender problems that should be solved. The Indonesian government has made various efforts to reduce the gender inequality through some real actions and regulations that have gender perspective. Although there has been a political will of the government to reduce gender inequality, it cannot be abolished completely. On one hand, the lack of understanding of the Indonesian people to gender itself contributes to this phenomenon. On the other hand, mass media, especially television, has an important role to socialize inequality values. It could be seen clearly through the electronic cinemas (TV serial) which are presented in televisions. Those series usually posits women in subordinated, negative victims and negative labeling. This condition is not beneficial to the effort of striving to reduce gender inequality. It strengthens the existing gender inequality in the society. Television as one of mass communication media determines an individual image to a certain thing. Women organizations in Indonesia have to make vigorous efforts to remind the television management in order to pay more attention to gender issue.
