    Abstract

    An ongoing great problem related to the production of domestic wastes in our daily life needs effective treatments. It is necessary to find out the way to minimize the increased environmental pollution in the future. This research was aimed to treat such wastes, mainly organic wet wastes (OWW), into solid fertilizer (or compost) through an anaerobic process. It was performed by investigating the effects of starter, solvent volume, and additive on nitrogen, phosphor, and potassium (NPP) contents of the fertilizer. The experiment was initially conducted by collecting, cutting, and putting 4 kg of OWW into a composter. Starter (5 ml) and cane sugar (10 g) suspended into solvent (water) were therefore sprayed to wastes. After an addition of bran, composter was anaerobic-conditioned and composted for several days. The compost was finally removed from composter and dried after the process completed. Liquid fertilizer could also be removed from composter by discharging and filtering it. The NPP contents of both fertilizers were therefore analyzed. This study concluded that starter of Superfarm Decomposer took the shortest composting time of 28 days. The optimum process conditions were reached at solvent volume of 200 ml and bran weight of 100 g. It also indicated the OWW weight (g) : solvent volume (ml) : bran weight (g) ratio of 1:0,05:0,025. The compost produced at such conditions contained the NPP of 2,64 %, 0,83 %, and 1,34 %, respectively, and met the specification regulated by Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI).
